Obituary for Christopher John McKnight

ALL ARE INVITED TO A LUNCHEON FOLLOWING THE SERVICE AT ASBURY UMC SOUTH, 4760 WINCHESTER PIKE, COLUMBUS, OH 43232.

Christopher John McKnight, age 50 of Bellefontaine, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012. Chris was born in West Union, Iowa November 22, 1961, son of Joyce Vesey Park and the late Charles McKnight. Also preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, M. David Vesey and paternal grandparents, Howard and Josephine McKnight. Chris graduated Valedictorian from Groveport Madison High School, Class of 1980 and went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University where he earned a degree in Computer Science Engineering. Chris always enjoyed working, most recently as a software engineer for Lockheed Martin. He was a competitive man who always knew exactly what he wanted. He sometimes could have strong political views, enjoyed watching comedy TV re-runs and was a big O.S.U. football fan. Most of all however, Chris loved scuba diving and had the opportunity throughout his life to travel all over the world diving. He will be greatly missed by his loving mother, Joyce (Larry) Park; siblings, David McKnight, JoEllen McKnight, Douglas McKnight, and SueEllen (Ron, Jr.) Ball; step-sister, Nichole (Roger) Davis; maternal grandmother, Hazel Vesey; nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday, June 30, 2012 at SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., where family will receive friends from 11 A.M. until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Central Ohio, 1379 Dublin Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43215.

Joyce and family, so sorry to hear about Chris. He was a neat kid growing up and fun to hang out with. We have lost touch over the years, but mom, Mary Hartman, also sends her love and regrets over your loss.

Chris was instrumental in my obtaining my first software developer position twenty years ago, in Sterling Heights, Michigan. My fondest memories of Chris would be the times we rode back to Columbus together, with They Might Be Giants or The Clash tapes playing, as we joked and discussed work, co-workers, politics, sports, women, and music. I am glad we had those times, and I am happy for him that he enjoyed all those tropical vacations - scuba diving!

You and Tommy and Jim meant a lot more than you know to Chris. Thanks!

I'm so very, very sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathies and thoughts are with all of the family. Although our paths have not crossed for many years, I smile as I recall memories of the great times we had through the church youth group and our many family get togethers.

No words can truly express the grief you must be feeling. Please know you are not alone in those feelings. The years and distance have kept our families apart, but you are forever loved.
